Costumed historians Rebecca Donahue & Theresa Giard of the Dirty Blue Shirts will share stories of the women who waged the Revolutionary War and what they wore as their worlds “turn’d upside down.”

Join us as we participate in a nationwide public reading of the Declaration of Independence in celebration of our nation’s 250th anniversary. The reading will be presented by members of the community from the front porch of the Block Island Historical Society, bringing the Declaration of Independence alive. All are welcome to attend.

The New York Historical and Ken Burns’ team have graciously agreed for the Block Island Historical to livestream Ken’s live interview at the NY Historical about his latest film, The American Revolution.

Simeon Simons, a Western Pequot and Pokanoket Wampanoag, served in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, and was a personal bodyguard to George Washington.

Mark Valeri, Professor of Politics and Religion at Washington University, St Louis, will discuss the intersection of politics and religion during the lead up to the American Revolution. Free and open to the public.

Janet Dionis, Island historian, will present on the history of the Life Saving Service as part of the 2026 Exhibition Saviors & Salvagers: Block Island Shipwrecks. Free and open to the public.
