Celebrant’s Flame: Daniel Berrigan in Memory and Reflection
Thursday, August 26 @ 7:00 pm
An Evening with Bill Wylie-Kellermann, author of Celebrant’s Flame: Daniel Berrigan in Memory and Reflection.
Daniel Berrigan is famously known to Block Islanders either for his capture by the FBI at the Island home of William Stringfellow and Anthony Towne, after his four-month underground resistance in the anti-war movement, or as a quiet poet, regular Island visitor, and gracious host from his contemplative cottage on the south bluff. Or both. Bill Wylie-Kellermann, a student, mentee, and friend of Berrigan and Stringfellow, will share from his new book, Celebrant’s Flame: Daniel Berrigan in Memory and Reflection, which intimately and personally tells the story of Daniel as priest, Island contemplative, prophet of nonviolence, prisoner of conscience, biblical commentator, and poet of renown. Wylie-Kellermann, a pastor and nonviolent community activist, is the author of seven books. He will be joined by Jim Reale, Plowshares activist, filmmaker, and yoga therapist who is now a hospice nurse in Albuquerque, NM, but a former resident and arborist on Block Island. Among a community of six others, he contributed a reflection to Celebrant’s Flame.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase. Speakers will be available for conversation and signing.
The event will be held outside under the porch, with discussion on the side lawn. Chairs will be provided.
